Computing the resting membrane potential and membrane properties
Use the GHK equation (at a temperature of \(29.2\;{}^{\circ}\mathrm{C}\) ) to calculate the membrane potential in mV for a cell model in which
- only the ions \(\mathrm{Cl}^{-}\) and \(\mathrm{K}^{+}\) play a role;
- the concentration of \(\mathrm{Cl}^{-}\) inside the cell is \(3.2\;\mathrm{mM}\) and outside the cell is \(121\;\mathrm{mM}\);
- the concentration of \(\mathrm{K}^{+}\) inside the cell is \(155.0\;\mathrm{mM}\) and outside the cell is \(4.1\;\mathrm{mM}\);
- the following ratio of permeabilities may be used \(P_\mathrm{K}\;:\;P_\mathrm{Cl}=1\;:\;0.15\).
